Crafted with Yu-bi Maki-e techniques, each pen in this collection embodies the spirit of espionage and mastery. Ninja were prominent from the Muromachi period (1336-1573) to the Edo period (1603-1868). They were employed by warring feudal lords and given missions involving night raids, sabotage and assassination. However, their most important missions were gathering intelligence and relaying information back to their lords.
The Ninjas were highly-trained proponents of the martial arts, they were adept at disguise, deception, and assaulting enemy positions and strongholds, usually at night when they moved like shadows in their traditional dark clothing. Weapons such as swords, shurikens and makibishi were used by the Ninjas during their missions.
