Namiki unveils limited edition Yukari Bumblebee Fountain Pen. A limited release of 300 pieces worldwide, this exclusive fountain pen was inspired by the harmonious relationship between flora and fauna in the natural world and captures the essence of mutualism through delicate motifs of bumblebees and Blue Salvia flowers.
Often regarded as symbols of intelligence and individual strength, the docile bumblebee serves as the central motif of this exquisite fountain pen. Bumblebees play a vital role in pollen transportation and are recognised as indispensable pollinators for numerous plants and flowers. Their diligent foraging is also celebrated as an emblem of independence.
Complementing the bumblebee motif is the vibrant Blue Salvia, a native North American and Mexican flower known for its symbolism of respect, wisdom, and familial love. Well-loved for its ease of cultivation, the Blue Salvia also allows gardeners to partake in the joys of planting, mirroring the harmonious and symbiotic relationship inherent in nature.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, a mix of Namiki’s artisanal techniques is used to bring the vivid scene to life. Portraying the bumblebee earnestly collecting nectar, the technique of Hira Maki-e (Flat Maki-e) has been employed to capture pollen adorning their wings and body. Through this process, the lacquered main design is created – the artwork is meticulously decorated and embellished with sprinkled gold and silver powders before several layers of lacquer are applied. Once hardened, skilled hands burnish the surface, unveiling an enviable level of detail and intricacy.
As for the imagery of bumblebees flitting and fluttering around the Blue Salvias, a masterful blend of techniques is used. Utilising a combination of Togidashi Maki-e (Burnished Maki-e), Raden (Mother-of-Pearl), and gold powder, the enthralling end result conveys movement and light in the pen’s design.
The limited-edition Namiki Bumblebee is presented in an intricately designed Hakone marquetry box.
