As co-founder and the Secession’s first president, Gustav Klimt postulated its maxim ‘To the times its art, to art its freedom’ and created momentous, gold-infused paintings such as The Kiss, visionary portraits of women, including Emilie Flöge and Adele Bloch-Bauer, as well as abstract murals such as the Beethoven Frieze and the Stoclet Frieze. Today, Gustav Klimt is objectively considered one of the most important artists of Art Nouveau and Symbolism.
The edition celebrates Klimt’s artistic beginnings in the Vienna Secession and highlights elements from his masterpieces Pallas Athene and The Kiss in its design
Specially designed clip refers to Klimt’s Athena painting, while the slightly curved lines ending in three spirals correspond to the decoration on the painting’s forged metal frame
Spiral ornamentation, a typical motif found on Mycenaean gold jewellery, and decorative hammer stroke on fittings both refer to Athena’s Greek homeland
Translucent, dark-blue lacquer on cap and barrel inspired by a portrait of Klimt’s muse Emilie Flöge, while circles, swirls, triangles and lines shimmering through come from his famous painting The Kiss
Klimt’s Secession monogram, a gold-coloured tampon print of his initials GK refers to his achievements for the Vienna Secession
Yellow gold-coated hammered cone set with a synthetic green spinel, the colour evoking spring, the season of new beginnings
Handcrafted solid Au 750 yellow gold nib finely engraved with an owl, both a reference to Klimt’s painting of Pallas Athena and to the Secession building, whose side facades are decorated with owl sculptures
Montblanc emblem crafted from white and black precious resin in cap top
