Ten years since the birth of the revolutionary 3776 CENTURY fountain pen, DECADE opens up the new era.
The Platinum 3776 model was developed in 1978 in collaboration with the late Mr. Haruo Umeda, a Japanese writer and a fountain pen collector, in pursuit of the ideal fountain pen. Named after Mount Fuji’s altitude, Japan’s highest peak, the pen conveys the hope of the company to create the best fountain pen in the country. Thirty-three years later, in 2011, the 3776 CENTURY model was launched. Their innovative design with unique “Slip & Seal Mechanism” that prevents ink from drying out has become Platinum Pen’s iconic model.
In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the 3776 CENTURY, Platinum Pen has launched a special limited edition to mark the new beginning of the series. As a symbol representing the development history from the past to the present of 3776 CENTURY, the limited edition incorporates the distinctive gathered surface of the 3776 model into the body of the current design. While retaining the visual impressions of the original design, the limited model has adopted a nearly-flat crown, exuding a nostalgic and elegant feel. A logo commemorating the 10th anniversary is printed on the crown while the tail cap is engraved with a serial number. The anniversary edition is limited to 3,776 pieces.
A new pen nib has been developed for this limited edition. The new nib retains the linear form reminiscent of the original 3776 nib, while a new writing feel is achieved with greater flexibility of the nib.
Each limited edition comes in an exclusive box, and includes a 20ml special color ink bottle for the 10th anniversary of 3776 CENTURY, cartridge ink, and converter. The special color ink is inspired by the image of the dark blue sky over Mt. Fuji turning into reddish hue of the rising sun. Enjoy the written words with color changes to reddish hue depending on the reflection of light.
